What’s the key to success? Cody Cornell makes it sound so simple, but if it was, then everyone would do it.
“I believe one of the most fundamental drivers of success was the consistent and persistent willingness to show up, day in and day out, for years,” Cornell said. “While seeing an organization from the outside can look a bit like a highlight reel, the real work happens when no one is watching. Nothing big is accomplished by an individual or happens overnight, so the willingness to prioritize the planned and unplanned work needed to keep an organization moving forward over the course of years has a tremendous impact on the individual, their family and the people around them.
“The risk calculation is understanding that for a long and sustained period of time, you are foregoing many other lower risk, higher success rate opportunities to pursue something you believe can be bigger than yourself.”
Cornell is co-founder and chief strategy officer for Swimlane, which provides low-code security orchestration, automation and response (SOAR). The company’s stated mission is to make the life of security teams better by reducing what is an impossible workload and enabling them to do impactful and meaningful work while the repetitive work is done for them automatically.
Under Cornell’s leadership, Swimlane announced a $70 million growth funding round led by Activate Capital in July 2022. The investment accelerated the company’s ongoing growth and operations, fueling its expansion to the Middle East, Turkey and Africa.
In June 2022, Cornell helped lead the company in the launch of Swimlane Turbine, a platform that helps organizations respond to the alerts they get from security tools and automates repetitive and mundane tasks across security operations. “As a low-code security automation platform, Turbine is both simple enough for individuals without coding skills and powerful enough to meet the needs of the most demanding security teams,” the company said. “It integrates human and machine data into actionable intelligence for security leaders.”
Swimlane has grown to more than 200 employees worldwide and counts many of the world’s largest enterprise brands as customers. It has established itself as the largest and fastest-growing pure-play security automation company, with a more than 700% growth rate over the last five years. Swimlane projects nearly $1 trillion in annual revenue among its top 25 enterprise customers.
Deloitte recently named Swimlane as one of the top 25 fastestgrowing cybersecurity companies as part of the Deloitte Fast 500 and the ASTORS Homeland Security Awards recognized Swimlane as one of the industry’s top security orchestration, automation and response solutions. The American Cyber Awards named the company Best Security Company of the Year.
