Dan DeGolier had a full-time role as chief financial officer with good pay, equity, benefits and a strong future in a growing company. He left that security and success to forge his own path in order to work with multiple companies as a strategic fractional CFO.
“I had an ‘aha!’ moment that this would be both fun for me and valuable for growing companies,” DeGolier said. “I didn’t know if it would be successful. I didn’t know if I could find clients. But I had faith in my abilities and felt confident that I identified a need in the marketplace for this type of strategic fractional CFO service.”
DeGolier founded Ascent CFO Solutions, a professional services and fractional CFO firm for growing companies. The firm has more than 35 employees and more than $5 million in annual revenue and supports more than 90 companies.
“We provide the strategic financial expertise of a CFO backed by a full-stack financial team without adding to a company’s headcount,” the company said. “Companies in all stages rely on our financial expertise to give them visibility into their business and data-driven strategic insight to make more informed decisions as they grow.”
Under DeGolier’s leadership, Ascent CFO Solutions was named a Mercury 100 Fastest-Growing Company in Boulder Valley for two straight years. In 2022, Ascent’s headcount increased by 50% and its revenue increased by more than 60% over the prior year. Ascent CFO Solutions was also recognized as one of Built In’s 2023 Best Places to Work in Colorado.
DeGolier contributes to Colorado Business Magazine and regularly provides helpful content online and on Ascent CFO’s website to help entrepreneurs grow their businesses and to promote the fractional CFO profession. He volunteers his expertise as the chair of the finance committee for the “I Have A Dream” Foundation of Boulder County, which helps young people from under-resourced communities achieve their dreams. DeGolier is also an angel investor who has contributed funding to multiple early-stage companies in the region to fuel their growth.
