Jason Nimmo grew up in the glazing industry, working for his family’s glass company, Morgan and Sons Glass Inc. He worked as a glazier in the field and shop for his family’s company during the summers when he was in high school. He continued to work in the industry during his off hours while attending Colorado State University, earning his bachelor’s in construction management.
Nimmo eventually worked in operations for two of the largest glazing contractors in the U.S., moving up to director of operations over 12 years. In 2019, Nimmo partnered with pre-construction and sales expert Brad Holt, and the pair launched Element13 Facades.
“Navigating the pandemic and all the law/guideline changes specific to construction work (essential), paired with start-up stressors and building a business took a ton of heart, mental toughness, grit and perseverance,” the company said. “In the end, though, Element13 Facades came out the other side and is now one of the top glazing contractors in Colorado.”
Element13 Facades closed 2022 with more than $25 million in sales and $18 million in top line revenue. The company has been featured in Glass Magazine twice, once for bringing new blood to the Denver market and again for ranking among the top 50 Glazing Contractors in the U.S.
The company’s vision statement is posted on the wall of its office entryway: “As a construction company and people-centric business, Element13 Facades’ vision is to create an innovative and collaborative workplace where its people are empowered and trusted to dream, create, decide, and execute work in their own unique ways.”
The company expects the next five years to mirror the first three. It will focus on relationships to succeed, it said, and the plan is to expand the company’s footprint.
“I have watched and learned from a large number of leaders in various roles, at various companies,” Nimmo said. “I have learned to absorb and retain different styles, techniques, mannerisms, etc. from these various experiences. The risk taken was starting my own business, which is molded by 20-plus years of experience and exposure to these various individuals.
“Those of us that have branched out fully understand the risks, stressors, etc. that come with owning a business — I feel like Element13 Facades is a bit different, simply because we are a specialty trade and our scopes of work carry high levels of risk. I took this risk because I wanted to start something different; something that would change the way people think about construction in general.”
