Angela Quinn worked for a nonprofit for three years and thought a law degree would serve her well in a management role. She never considered becoming a practicing attorney but was hired as a summer associate at Husch Blackwell, where she fell in love with the practice and the people. After more than a decade as a healthcare attorney, making partner during that time, Quinn decided she wanted to be on the business side and assumed the dual roles of director of operations for the healthcare, life sciences and education industry group and director of strategic growth for the firm.
“In the decade since making a career pivot, Angela has become a conduit between clients and the firm’s attorneys, making it a priority to put client goals ahead of the firm’s financial benefit,” said her colleagues. “Her laser focus on client success drove significant investments in surveying clients continually to seek feedback, leading to an industry-leading Net Promotor Score and client retention.”
Husch Blackwell sees itself as more of a partner than a provider of legal service. The firm’s counsel is based on deep knowledge of each client’s industry and the focus is always on using strengths to find the best way to help move clients forward.
Under Quinn’s leadership as the chief client officer, the firm has invested in technology, AI and other resources to develop significant expertise in alternative fee pricing, delivering win-win results for some of the firm’s largest clients. At the same time, Husch Blackwell has employed data scientist to help staff client teams that reflect the diversity of the clients they serve. Her leadership has helped guide the firm to more than five years of year-over-year growth in headcount, revenue and profitability.
“Angela is a servant leader who puts clients first, a philosophy which has been embraced by the entire firm,” said her staff. Her efforts have led to the firm’s award as a Value Champion by the Association of Corporate Counsel three times. Quinn also played a vital role on the Husch Blackwell/Express Scripts team that was recognized in 2017.
According to Quinn, a successful leader is somebody who is empathetic and gets to know and understand his or her team. “A successful leader is somebody who listens and instills confidence in his or her team to perform at the highest level,” she said. “A successful leader holds not only his or her team accountable, but themselves and above all, a successful leader treats people the way they want to be treated.”
For successfully leading with empathy and accountability, Quinn has been named a titan.
