Shortly after graduating from the University of Missouri’s Trulaske College of Business, Chris Blackerby banded together with fellow alumni to develop a healthcare tech startup. Blackerby oversaw talent acquisition and management and was instrumental in growing the business to nearly 300 employees operating at around $70 million in revenue annually.
Five years later, the startup was acquired by Accenture where Blackerby acted as a senior manager, extending the company’s service reach overseas. It was in 2018 when he decided to pivot and foster his knowledge to launch a new, innovative IT consulting company with two other leaders.
Incisive Consultants was founded as a minority-owned healthcare IT consulting firm committed to company culture, innovation and value-based principles. Specializing in digitally transforming healthcare organizations, with an emphasis on electronic health record (EHR) software optimization, Incisive holds a strong reputation for providing world-class EHR consulting services by leveraging technology to improve patient care.
Under Blackerby’s leadership, the company has doubled in revenue and size year over year with more than $30 million in historic revenue and $30,000 donations to charity. Inclusive Consultants has grown to over 60 employees and was named one of the fastest growing tech companies in the Midwest for two years in a row while partnering with STEM-focused nonprofits to help youth of color learn about career opportunities in Healthcare IT.
Blackerby was also named one of 150 Black CEOs to Watch by Becker’s healthcare and the firm has been recognized as one of the Best Places to Work in Healthcare and named by Inc. 5000 as one of the fastest-growing tech companies in the nation.
“He continues to inspire, encourage and empower his colleagues to be the absolute best versions of themselves everyday,” said his colleagues. “In addition, his effective management has ensured that Incisive Consultants operates with efficiency, agility and adaptability in an ever-evolving market.”
This adaptability has also spotlighted a collaborative leadership style. “My emotional intelligence serves as a powerful tool, setting our business apart in numerous ways,” said Blackerby. “I leverage this superpower to forge deep, empathetic relationships with clients, ensuring a foundation of trust and loyalty.”
If he could provide his younger self with advice, Blackerby said he would encourage embracing failure as a learning opportunity. “Failure is a natural part of the entrepreneurial journey,” he said. “Instead of fearing it, embrace failure as an opportunity to learn, grow and pivot.”
For propelling the industry and his staff toward futuristic solutions in Healthcare IT, Blackerby has been named a titan.
