The greatest leadership lesson Mike Schrieber has learned is that goals can – and should – change. “As Playfly’s capabilities grow and as we acquire various properties across the globe, we can accomplish more than we previously thought possible,” he said. “Through experiencing our very rapid growth and transformations, Playfly has worked diligently to always accept new obstacles and continue to perform to our highest ability.”
Playfly Sports is a sports media, marketing and technology business centered around the team, league, brand and network. The company connects more than 2,000 brand partners with approximately 83% of all U.S. sports fans. Through the proprietary platform, the business delivers scalable, data-oriented marketing, technology and media solutions with capabilities including exclusive MMR management, sponsorship sales and activation, streaming, consulting, ticket/premium sales, all along with new revenue-driving platforms and technologies.
Under Schrieber’s leadership, Playfly Sports is now home to approximately 1,000 team members located across 43 U.S. states dedicated to maximizing the impact of highly passionate local sports fans. “Our ultimate goal for our partners is to make sure they meet their overall business objectives,” said Schrieber.
As a leader, Schrieber said he relies on natural curiosity and a willingness to continually learn and grow professionally. “We take an innovative and creative approach, identifying and finding ways to fill gaps and needs in the industry, as well as creative business structures that will fulfill our clients’ needs and further both ourselves and our clients,” he said. “It’s important to balance between effective leadership in the now and thinking ahead for the future.”
Over the course of the past year since Schrieber was named a Titan 100, he has promoted several Playfly initiatives dedicated to offering personal and professional development opportunities for students in underrepresented groups in the world of sports business. Playfly continued its partnership with Sports Biz Camps, offering career guidance and mentorship, as well as a partnership with the Black Student-Athlete Summit.
The firm also continues to lend helping hands to local nonprofit groups, and Schrieber and his children set up a Ukraine relief project dedicated to helping those displaced by the conflict and offering both monetary and in-kind resources to those affected. “At Playfly, measuring impact is not solely based on numbers and statistics, but it is felt through the evident excitement and unwavering initiative that our young emerging leaders show,” said Schrieber.
