For Philip Malliet, president and CEO of Hayes Performance Systems, having passion for the end user of the company’s products is critical. “I have participated at significant levels in many of the markets we serve and although I am not at the same skill level as some of the team members in the company, I am able to relate to their experiences and enjoy the comradery within the customer base,” said Malliet.

This participation as the end user reignites his passion for the industry and as a leader, said Malliet, who manifests himself into the strategic planning process. “I am very process oriented and believe in a baseline standard operating procedure that can be evolved through continuous improvement,” he said.

While Hayes Performance Systems, Inc. has multiple divisions, the firm’s primary industries are bicycle, agriculture, construction, military, motorized power sport and electric vehicles across all markets. The company provides high-end braking solutions and bicycle components through multiple selling channels on a global basis.

In the last year since Malliet was named a Titan 100, the company began a journey of increasing automation toward best-in class assembly of products and systems. “We also began the search for an advanced machining company to rapidly and vastly improve our capability to move new product development actions from 36 months on average to 18 months on average,” said Malliet. The company expects to close an acquisition during the third quarter of 2023.

Hayes Performance Systems, Inc. has also established a new partnership with a warehousing concern complementing the company’s footprint in Europe and expects to expand production and selling networks including direct-to-customer while cultivating new OEM customers that have dedicated new platforms for the planned product launches.

“There is an interesting dynamic that occurred in the last three years that directly affected most of our primary market segments,” said Malliet. The pandemic caused substantial demand in the bicycle and power sport markets with those same markets seeing a dramatic reduction in demand in 2023. This has led to a launch of new products in the power business unit and sponsorships with world class athletes and international teams.

Malliet’s commitment to fostering leaders has led to the Hayes Leadership Experience with Senior Management Leadership Training with the Living as a Leader Organization. The company has added an E-Lead Program for individual contributors and the Emerging Leader Series for mid-level leadership.

For continuing to propel the industry forward while enhancing the lives of his leaders, Malliet has been named a Titan 100 for the second time.
