With decades of environment, social, governance, sustainability and climate change experience, he has delivered results within complex global organizations and through unprecedented global collaborations.
As the chief sustainability officer for Clarios, Muellerweiss is described as a sought-after strategic advisor, recognized bridge builder and change agent. “From the early days of his career, Muellerweiss dedicated himself to improving the greater good,” said his staff.

The firm partners with aftermarket and original equipment customers to meet increasing market demand for smarter applications on a global scale. Its 16,000 employees develop, manufacture and distribute a portfolio of evolving battery technologies for virtually every type of vehicle.
Under Muellerweiss’ leadership as the chief sustainability officer, Clarios has pioneered one of the world’s strongest examples of a circular economy closed loop system, where up to 99 percent of old batteries and up to 99 percent of their components become new batteries, ultimately protecting the planet.
His efforts were also critical in the creation of the World Economic Forum’s Global Battery Alliance. As president of the Responsible Battery Coalition, Muellerweiss testified before the US Senate Energy Committee to promote the need for a national battery economy. His passion also lies with the creation of the Clarios Foundation. The foundation has been instrumental to protecting the health and safety of children across 14 countries.
As a board member on the foundation, Muellerweiss was part of launching the Protecting Every Child’s Potential program that works to prevent children’s exposure to lead from informal, illegal, substandard lead-acid battery manufacturing and recycling and helps to protect more than 70 million children in Bangladesh, Georgia, Ghana and Indonesia against childhood lead poisoning.
Celebrating his work as a changemaker, Muellerweiss was named a Top 100 Sustainability Leader in 2022 by sustainability Magazine which features extraordinary leaders who disrupt and deliver in the sustainability sector across the world.
“As a leader, to try and push the boundaries and go where others have not gone before, you need accountability, rewards for success and the ability to mitigate the downside for people to enlist,” said Muellerweiss.
His continued efforts to make the world a better place while leading by example has earned Muellerweiss a spot as a Titan 100.
