Matt Frey

Vice President - Account Manager

Skanska USA Building

Location: Atlanta

Founded: 1905

Industry: Construction

Matt Frey’s natural leadership afforded him the opportunity to be recruited by Skanska USA Building in 2011, joining the team as a senior director of business development. Within his first year, Frey secured over $800 million in work for the company and was quickly promoted to the role of vice president throughout the state of Texas. Moving into the role of account manager, Frey continued to propel forward up the company ranks and now serves as the vice president for the company’s Georgia and South Carolina operations.

More than 135 years in the making, Skanska USA Building is one of the world’s largest development and construction companies, operating in markets throughout the Nordics, Europe and the United States. The firm has invested a total of $3.5 billion in commercial and multi-family projects and with 6,500 teammates in the U.S. and 28,000 globally, Skanska USA Building has created innovative and sustainable solutions that support healthy living.

Since joining the Atlanta leadership team, Frey has amassed over $1.159 billion worth of work with a strong resume of repeat clients throughout the metro-Atlanta region. “Frey believes that while his company and leadership has its set of checks and balances, he is allowed to chart his own path forward as a leader and develop a growth trajectory that continues to challenge and excite him throughout his career,” said his colleagues.

Under Frey’s leadership, Skanska’s projects included the Hilton Signia Atlanta at the Georgia World Congress Center, the award-winning Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design at Georgia Tech and the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport Terminal T North Expansion which received the 2023 Award of Merit for Airport/Transit by Engineering News-Record.

Connecting with people is a key element of Frey’s leadership style, said his staff. “With a mixture of contagious energy and reflective vulnerability, Matt connects with people, building relationships of trust that lead to productive work associations,” they said. “He is uniquely sensitive to the emotions in a room and is gifted at isolating core concerns and addressing them systematically.”

According to Frey, he is a team guy when it comes to solving complex problems. “The construction industry is very complex with ever-changing technologies and processes, so it would be impossible to complete any project without one another,” he said. “Ultimately, I want to create an environment where we can experience various scenarios and opinions to vet all possible outcomes to the issue to make the best decisions together – I want team buy-in and swift action.”
