According to Jody Sarchett, president and chief executive officer of Marsh McLennan Agency, an insurance broker, corporate culture remains a focus for the survival and growth of the business.
“Corporate culture encompasses the shared values, attitudes, and behaviors that define an organization and guide its interactions both internally and externally,” she said. “By fostering a culture of integrity, collaboration, passion, innovation, and accountability, organizations can create an environment that attracts and retains top talent, drives innovation, enhances productivity, and builds strong relationships with customers and stakeholders.”
In the past year since she was named a Titan 100, Sarchett has led the team through a move from Tempe to new Scottsdale offices with colleagues returning to the office following remote work. “By bringing people together physically, we are providing an environment that encourages face-to-face interactions, idea sharing and enhanced teamwork,” said Sarchett. “This move demonstrates our commitment to creating a positive work culture and promoting effective collaboration, all while continuing to grow and lead our industry.”
This year also marked strategic steps to adapt to the changing needs of the market and clients. Under Sarchett’s guidance, the firm continued to hire and train talent while restructuring departments to ensure the organization remains agile and responsive. This initiative involved redistributing workloads more evenly and aligning resources more effectively.
“Successful leaders today must have the ability to foresee and plan for what is to come,” said Sarchett. “A successful leader recognizes the values and unique strengths and talents of employees, and investing in their growth and development enhances team performance and job satisfaction.”
During times of rapid growth and earnings, predicting unforeseeable business shortfalls is crucial for risk mitigation, financial stability, strategic decision-making, stakeholder management and business continuity, said Sarchett.
Her greatest leadership lesson learned was that it’s impossible to predict these events with certainty, but businesses can still take steps to prepare for and mitigate their impact. “By being proactive and prepared, our company has navigated through challenging times more effectively and maintained long-term success,” she said.
Sarchett said she has also learned the importance of being named a titan of industry. “Being a leader is not just about holding a position of authority; it is about inspiring and influencing others to achieve common goals,” she said. “Being a titan, we have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact, guide others toward success, and shape the future of their teams and organizations.”
