Kalicharan Durgampudi

President & CEO

Apprio

Location: Orlando, FL

Founded: 1998

Industry: Healthcare Information Technology

Kali Durgampudi came from a humble background in India and was raised by parents who were the first to go to school and college in many generations. He arrived in the U.S. in 1998 with a $2,500 bank loan to complete his master’s degree. He went on to build up a career from an associate software engineer at Sprint to the chief executive officer of Apprio, a healthcare information technology firm, by 2023.

“It is a combination of many miracles for me to stand here today, but I also believe in making your own future and working extremely hard,” said Durgampudi. “At Apprio, I have the opportunity to build a company and legacy that will revolutionize the automation technology and reduce healthcare costs and burden in hospitals, but more importantly, will allow humans to perform higher cognitive functions, leaving the mundane to be handled by computers.”

Prior to taking on the role of president and chief executive officer of Apprio, Durgampudi held roles at Eclipsys, Nuance, Greenway and Zelis. He was instrumental in building the largest global center in record time at Zelis with a team of 150+ and led the team at Greenway to deliver the best quality software at a record pace.

At Apprio, Durgampudi is embarking on a journey to reduce healthcare costs and burdens by automating a majority of the tasks in any revenue cycle management division of healthcare providers. He is responsible for this team as a whole including sales, marketing, technology, product, innovation and implementation.

Durgampudi has shared his wealth of knowledge with publications in Forbes, Healthcare and EMRs, and in various podcasts promoting new arsenals for global healthcare. In 2022, he was named the technology leader of the year by Tampa Bay Tech and chief information officer of the year in 2021 by InspireCIO.

“I did not treat any of my jobs as just jobs,” said Durgampudi. “I cherish the roles and thrive as much as I possibly can while helping anyone I can along the way.”

As a leader, Durgampudi said he believes there is a win-win and a human way to do anything as long as core human values are followed. “I am just an ordinary guy who got the opportunity to do some extraordinary things in life due to hard work, friendships, blessings, some good fortune, mentors and my family,” he said. “I just took each opportunity with utmost enthusiasm and each failure with maximum learning.”
